The iKeepSafe.orgSM website, operated by the Internet Keep Safe CoalitionSM (IKSCSM) group, offers children a virtual playground where, through entertaining online activities and games, children may learn important Internet safety rules. The IKSCSM group comprises a partnership of governors, first spouses, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporate sponsors determined to protect children from the growing threat of Internet predators.
It is our policy at the IKSCSM group to protect the privacy of those who visit our website. The only personally identifiable information we collect from children is their email address. We collect the email address for the specific purposes of sending out e-newsletters on Internet safety, or in order for children to email the character Faux Paw the Techno CatSM, the icon of our organization and for Internet safety in general.
Though we are a 501(c)(3) organization and are exempt from compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we nevertheless ensure our collection practices and privacy policies comport, and are in accordance, with COPPA.
As such, the following more specifically outlines our procedure for collecting a child’s personally identifiable information for the purposes stated above. If a child desires to receive the IKSC e-newsletter, we initially, and without verifiable parental consent, collect the child’s email address along with his or her parent’s email address. We then apprise parents via email that we collected their child’s email address and notify them we intend to use and retain their child’s email address to continuously send their child updated newsletters.
We also collect a child’s email on a one-time basis to send a reply email from Faux Paw. That is, after the child emails Faux Paw and Faux Paw replies, the child’s email is then destroyed.
Moreover, at each place where the child’s email address is collected, a link to this privacy policy is available and prominently displayed so that children and their parents may understand our collection practices and commitment to protecting the privacy of users of our website.
In other areas of our website we collect information from organizations and individuals desiring participation with the Coalition. Specifically, we collect information from individuals who are fourteen years or older, and use this information for our volunteer database. We also collect information from organizations that desire participation with the Coalition or that would like to schedule a media event with, or a presentation from, Faux Paw. As a general policy, iKeepSafe.orgSM website's host does not sell, disclose or provide third parties with any information about visitors to our website.
Incidentally, and as is customary with most websites, our website collects and stores the name of the domain and host from which a visitor accesses the Internet; the Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer the visitor is using to access our website; the browser software the visitor uses and the visitor's operating system; the date and time our website was accessed; and the Internet address of the site from which a visitor linked directly to our site. This information is only used for statistical purposes to determine the number of visitors to different sections within the website, to ensure proper website operation, and for other internal purposes. We do not track personal information about individuals and we delete this information regularly.
