Dear Virginia Citizen:
As Governor of Virginia, I am proud to join the iKeepSafe Coalition of public officials to continue to promote online safety to parents and children across Virginia.
Virginia took the lead on Internet safety in 2006 when, as Attorney General, I convened the Virginia Youth Internet Safety Task Force to explore ways to better protect our children from the dangers and inappropriate material they likely would encounter online. An integral recommendation in the task force's final report was to create and/or identify existing educational tools that could be utilized to instruct children and parents on safety measures to employ while navigating the Internet.
iKeepSafe was a key member of that task force and has worked extensively with us since then to get this important message out. We successfully used the Faux Paw educational resources in all of the public and private elementary schools in Virginia and also provided the materials to libraries and Boys and Girls clubs statewide.
While we continue to work with law enforcement to apprehend and punish those who use technology to prey on the most vulnerable among us, we understand that the best defense against the dangers pervading the Internet is to work diligently to educate parents, students, teachers and law enforcement about the dangers of the Internet. We hope you will find the information contained in this website useful and that you share it with your children.
Sincerely,
Robert F. McDonnell
